Grand Coulee Dam

One weekend we visited the Grand Coulee Dam, which is amazingly large. The size almost didn't hit me until we drove past Bonneville on the way back to Portland, and Matt commented that it looks about a third as large as Grand Coulee. There was a really nice visitors center. We learned that Grand Coulee can alone can power Seattle and Portland from just part of its power generation! There is also a special treaty with Canada for the use of parts of the Columbia River above Washington. It was also sad to read about how the reservoirs greatly affected the Native American populations that survived on fishing, which was basically eliminated by the dam.

Another gorgeous part of Washington!
